The Clackamas County area extends from the agriculturally rich Willamette Valley in the west to the forested slopes of the Cascade Range in the east and borders the Portland area's urban core to the north.
The county's business economy is growing with concentrations of metals, fabrication, machinery, distribution and computer hardware and software firms. The county is endowed with productive farmlands and forest and provides easy access to abundant recreational activities, including fishing, rafting, hiking and skiing. About seven-eighths of the land area in the county is considered rural. Some of the richest farmland in Oregon is located around Canby, Sandy, Boring, Wilsonville and Molalla, making agriculture one of the area's principal industries.
The average per capita income for Clackamas County is $25,973 with an average household income of $52,080. Median age of county residents is 37.5, and 71.5 percent of the population is part of a family household.
On an educational level, 24.1 percent of county residents are high school graduates, 29.5 percent have some college, and 18.9 percent have a bachelor degree. There are currently 87,642 persons enrolled in school systems, 70.2 percent of them in public elementary or high schools, and 18 percent in college. Of the 136,954 housing units in the county 128,201 are occupied. Clackamas County Population is currently about 323,000.
