Winter Solstice The City's Winter Solstice Event celebrated its third year in 2005 and as in years past, hundreds of neighbors gathered at the City's Riverfront to view the Christmas ships, to warm by the roaring bonfire and enjoy caroling and warm refreshments. New to 2005 festivities was a musical performance by the members of Milwaukie High School's band and chorus. The Christmas Ship Fleet averages about 55 to 60 boats between the two Columbia and Willamette River fleets. Both fleets are out every night for two weeks in December.
